Sassy bridal shower cookies

So recently a friend of mine was hosting a bridal shower. She had quite a few ladies coming over and was stressing about how much everything was going to cost. Especially cute cookies. One hair brained idea to another we came up with making 4 dozen cookies. Needless to say it was an undertaking but it was definitely worth it!
First we started with a super simple but super yummy sugar cookie recipe.
6 Tbsp. Butter
1/3 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tbsp. milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
Stir together flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside. Beat butter and shortening for 30 seconds; add sugar and beat till fluffy. Add egg, milk, and vanilla; beat well. Add dry ingredients to beaten mixture, beating till well combined. Cover and chill at least 3 hours. Working 1/2 of the dough at a time, on a lightly floured surface roll to 1/8 in. thickness. Cut into desired shapes. (in this case HEARTS!) Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 minuted or until done. This recipe will make about 36-48.

When I first read this recipe I was not too jazzed about the chilling for at least 3 hours (see here is the impatient part) but I swear it makes ALL the difference when you start working with the dough! And this recipe was given to me by a friend and it is my absolute favorite recipe for sugar cookies! So simple yet sooo yummy!

So we used just a simple heart cookie cutter and cut out about a million and a half cookies.

Then we mixed together a large batch of Martha Stewart's royal frosting recipe.  2/3 cups of water, 1/2 cup plus 2 tbsp of merengue powder, 2 lbs of confectioners' sugar, and gel paste food coloring. We had to really use the water sparingly but it turned out MARVELOUS! We then split it up and used different colored food coloring to dye the frosting different colors. Next, up the docorations! Half of the hearts we decorated as boobies and half the hearts we decorated as booties. Needless to say, we got a little crazy but I think they turned out AMAZING! Bride happy... check. Budget in tact...... check! Mission accomplished.
