Cutie pie T-shirts!

These were soooo stinkin easy to make... I followed the same idea as the baby blanket with initials on it. My friend wanted her little girl to have some cute little t-shirts without paying a fortune for them. So we got simple, plain little t-shirts and some really cute fabric. I had some left over fusible interfacing so we ironed that onto the back of the fabric just for some added stiffness to the design. We picked a peace sign and the letter j and cut them out of the fabric(with interfacing on the back) and then zigzag stitched them to the t-shirts. They turned out soooo cute and sooooo easy to make! I gotta find a picture of the j shirt but here is the peace sign!
You could turn this idea into ANYTHING! onsies, socks, tshirts, big tshirts, shorts..... and in any shape you want! soooo easy! and WAY cheaper then if you were to buy it from a store or boutique!

Fun TOMS

Not that TOMS aren't already fun.... but these are WAY ..... funner! baha! and Super easy to make!
I bought some burlap TOMS and decided they were just too bland for me and needed a little jazz! (said with jazz fingers) So I got some acrylic paint, Hobby Lobby sell this SUPER cheap and a foam dobber-looking paint thing (seen in picture)  and starting doting just the toes of my shoes. I LOVE them! Cj also told me the only way he would pay for these shoes was if I painted his name somewhere on them.... so,  I stenciled Cj on the outside of the heal of my shoe. I have to say even that was stinkin cute.... You can't see that in the picture though! So with that in mind, you could put whatever you wanted on your TOMS!
P.S. the dobber looking thing is in the bottom right corner on the plate!

Garage sale find!

So we had a garage sale last weekend and one of Cj's work buddies also wanted to have a garage sale.... it was a combined effort! While he was unloading his stuff into my driveway I spotted two lamps that just had to be mine... oh yes, they would be mine! lol I sat and looked at them all day saturday and NO ONE bought them! It was a sign I was supposed to have them, so I picked them up for $5 each! woot!

They definitely needed some TLC but look at the detail... and how tall they were! I mean they practically called my name!
So after cleaning them up a bit and buying 1 can of black spray paint. I was armed with the necessary tools to turn these lamps into the perfect additions to my living room!

These pictures just DO NOT do them justice... they are stunning! after being thoroughly pleased with my new lamps I went on a hunt for the perfect shades, oh and to pick up light bulbs.  I looked everywhere for the perfect lamp shade and was sorely disappointed with the lack of variety at an affordable cost so I went with something simple.... I think I may have to spruce them up but for now they will do.

Yeah... after looking at these pictures... they will definitely have to be spruced up! and... I need to take better pictures! But these lamps look really good on my new end tables I picked up on craigslist for a STEAL.

I am in LOVE with these tables... I just need to figure out a way to paint them.... I'm thinking maybe turquoise.... Maybe......

p.s. my living room looks messy only because this picture was taken post garage sale, when my house was still in shambles... I promise it looks better!

Nursery!

A friend of mine just had a sweet baby girl, and she asked me to paint a little something on the nursery wall. It took me a minute to gather my thoughts but since there are no windows in this nursery I decided little sweet pea needed some nature in her room...... I am not so sure how it turned out because I freehanded it but the momma likes it... and thats what's important! The pictures turned out HORRIBLE but the walls are actually a light pink and the tree is two different shades of purple.

Here are some of the decorations I painted on the trunk of the tree.....

and we also decided Aubrey needed her name in there too.
This project was definitely more difficult than I planned because of the texture of the wall... but it turned out fine. I have been thinking about adding some silk flowers on the tree to give it more texture... but we will see.

New Baby!

So Cj's cousin just had a sweet baby boy! In celebration we wanted to give a great homemade gift! So we went out and got some super cute, boyish (yes, thats a word) material and got cracking. I should also mention that I wing things alot. I don't usually measure at all and figure stuff out along the way..... So here it went. I really wanted to make things the mom and dad could use..... so we decided on a blankie, burp cloths, and bibs.
First the blankie, we got some soft material cut it into about the size I wanted. Then I flipped the material right sides together and sewed around the edge with just enough left open to turn the blanket back the right side out. After I closed up the left over hole, I used my rotary cutter and cut out fabric in the shapes of sweet baby's initials. Next I placed them on the blanket, where I wanted them, and zigzag stitch sewed all around the letters.
The "R" bunched up a little but no biggie. I still LOVED it! You can also see in this pic that I restitched around the edge of the blanket while I was sewing up the hole..... I'll have to take pictures during the process next time around.
Next up the super easy burp cloths. I went to target and got a super cheap pack of  plain burp clothes, picked out a soft, cute, washable fabric and got to work. I also decided to sew his first inital on these, but after the blanket there were a cinch!
These are, of course, folded. You can only see the center section of the bup clothes....... and then the blankie underneath...... and my couch pillow! lol
Then, last but most certainly NOT least..... the bibs. These were a little more difficult only because I didn't think about the process before doing it.... so needless to say there was some serious seam ripping on the first one! lol
I first bought a simple pattern from etsy...... the name of the shop escapes my mind now... but I'm sure I'll think about it later.....
Anyways simple pattern to get started.
p.s. RomeoandMae is the name of the etsy shop, where I  bought the pattern. I just remembered. And Jennifer will send you the pattern in PDF so you can keep it on your computer and print when needed, which for scatter brains like me this is an added bonus!

ok, back on track, simple pattern bought. Cute material bought. I cut out the pattern on the fabrics and the batting needed for the middle of the bib. Next I pinned them together (right sides of fabric together and batting on the outside) and started sewing. I left a little hole to flip the bib right sides out. and stitched the hole closed. These turned out sooo stinkin cute and after my first little fudge up they were super easy too so I busted out four!
You can see the front of one and the back of another in this picture. I used just simple cotton fabrics for the fronts and a really soft brown chenille fabric for the back.

Here is all four of them layed out. Didn't they turn out sooo cute?! P.s. I really need to pay more attention to what is in the backgound of my pictures! tee hee

Sassy bridal shower cookies

So recently a friend of mine was hosting a bridal shower. She had quite a few ladies coming over and was stressing about how much everything was going to cost. Especially cute cookies. One hair brained idea to another we came up with making 4 dozen cookies. Needless to say it was an undertaking but it was definitely worth it!
First we started with a super simple but super yummy sugar cookie recipe.
6 Tbsp. Butter
1/3 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tbsp. milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
Stir together flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside. Beat butter and shortening for 30 seconds; add sugar and beat till fluffy. Add egg, milk, and vanilla; beat well. Add dry ingredients to beaten mixture, beating till well combined. Cover and chill at least 3 hours. Working 1/2 of the dough at a time, on a lightly floured surface roll to 1/8 in. thickness. Cut into desired shapes. (in this case HEARTS!) Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 minuted or until done. This recipe will make about 36-48.

When I first read this recipe I was not too jazzed about the chilling for at least 3 hours (see here is the impatient part) but I swear it makes ALL the difference when you start working with the dough! And this recipe was given to me by a friend and it is my absolute favorite recipe for sugar cookies! So simple yet sooo yummy!

So we used just a simple heart cookie cutter and cut out about a million and a half cookies.

Then we mixed together a large batch of Martha Stewart's royal frosting recipe.  2/3 cups of water, 1/2 cup plus 2 tbsp of merengue powder, 2 lbs of confectioners' sugar, and gel paste food coloring. We had to really use the water sparingly but it turned out MARVELOUS! We then split it up and used different colored food coloring to dye the frosting different colors. Next, up the docorations! Half of the hearts we decorated as boobies and half the hearts we decorated as booties. Needless to say, we got a little crazy but I think they turned out AMAZING! Bride happy... check. Budget in tact...... check! Mission accomplished.

In the beginning....

First, Please be patient with me as I stumble my way through the beginning steps of bloghood. I am 100% new to this. Second, I am really excited. My husband, lets call him CJ, swears that blogging is for me.....So here I go.
Let's see.... where do I begin? ..... I am a creater, that is, I love to create! Everything and anything is fair game from a new recipe to a new duvet for our bed. If I don't know how to do it.... I'll figure it out. If I've done it before, I'm sure I can do it differently and better! I get a vision of what I want and the mission begins immediately (I'm also not very patient!). It is an outlet for me. Cathartic creating! Sometimes that's good and sometimes...... not so much!  When it comes to my house, I think that letting anything sit for to long destroys it's energy so needless to say my house is constantly getting a makeover. I get bored with things being the same all the time so every once in a while I need a little PIZAZZ (p.s. I used  jazz fingers when I said that). So without any further adieus..... Happy Creating!
